Primary Purpose/Minimum Qualifications: The position has overall accountability for providing the applications necessary to support the workflow applications for the Life Divisions Operational Business Areas (New Business Services, Client Services, Operations Support). This is accomplished by overseeing two major activities: (1) all enhancements and ongoing maintenance of applications, including code maintenance activities, application administration, application portfolio management and long-term application planning; and (2) As dictated by business needs, the position will also direct and/or lead large, new application development projects. The position oversees the use of methodologies and standards in application development, and has various types of programmer and analyst roles in its area. Following are the essential functions of this position:
• Relationship Management: Serves as primary point of contact the management outside of the IT organization in order to understand requirements and priorities and anticipate needs. Works with business to manage expectations; works with leads to meet expectations.
• Application Release Design: Stays apprised of projects/initiatives and potential impact on business. Communicates changes and/or impacts to other areas within IT. Works with Division Architecture for Data Services needs, architecture standards compliance, and leverage of standard solutions. Develops the approach for releasing enhancements and new applications into production.
• Change Administration: Conceptualizes and implements a process for identifying business objectives and prioritizing business requests. • Resource Management: Ensures adequate allocation of resources across application support activities; manages the balance between deep skills and generalists; makes resources available for projects; works with direct report supervisors to determine staffing needs based on application plans.
• Personnel Development: Responsible for the skill development and career growth of manager-level direct reports.
• Project/Program Management: May act as the project manager for large or critical application development projects. Will oversee and direct the set of projects underway which utilize resources in this person’s area.
Qualifications:
10+ years of progressive experience in IT services and/or application development. At least 2 years of managerial experience.
